Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency first aid procedure for a victim of cardiac arrest. It is part of the chain of survival, which includes early access (to emergency medical services), early CPR, early defibrillation, and early advanced care. It is also performed as part of the choking protocol if all else has failed. It can be performed by trained laypersons or by health care or emergency response professionals.
